About

Once upon a time, there were two witches; sisters by both blood and life-passions. United by a profound sense of purpose, they decided it was time to share their lives and loves with others. While you traverse this blog, keep your bearings, as you may lose yourself in the fantastical realm of all that they hold most dear; including, but never limited to: London, theatre, Shakespeare, music, literature, travel, and various other bits n’ bobs that make up the constellation of their interests.

Witches of the West End was born after a long, yet satisfying, journey of self-discovery. These are our thoughts, our adventures, and our stories to tell – starting with who we are…

A smile and a warm hug to all who are reading this introduction. My name is Mary, in the common tongue; Marebear if you’re friendly, or Melannen if you’re Elvish. I have been gleefully figuring out the secret of life for 26 years; so far I can conclude that it comes down to love, laughter, and adult onsies. I feel most at home when I’m not at home, and prefer the company of real faces and places to the ones online. My personal spirit guides include Freddie Mercury, Carrie Hope Fletcher, Elton John, and Sierra Boggess. I graduated cum laude with a degree in theatre that now sits on a shelf and is only a fraction as impressive or relevant as my passion for it. Some of my fondest memories were created on a stage: whether directing/starring in a “Shakespeared” scene from Jesus Christ Superstar; channeling my inner Eponine (Les Misérables), Lucy (Jekyll & Hyde), and Jenna (Waitress); or playing medieval Beatles with my college choir. I am kind, considerate, and I choose to live with an open mind and an open heart. I don’t always have a plan, but I always get to where I’m going. Upon this most unpredictable and miraculous sea, I try to navigate my path in authentic fashion, unwavering in the pursuit of my deepest desires. I hope that I can inspire you to do the same.

Greetings and salutations! I’m Lauren, the younger witch by four years (making me 22, for those playing at home) – the Pippin to Mary’s… Merry, as it were. Let me tell you, in all honesty, a magna cum laude English degree doesn’t mean that much to me, but the adventures and lessons I experienced to earn it are priceless in my heart and mind. My specialties range from having been a Shakespearean teacher’s assistant through college, to writing, starring in and/or directing various productions of plays both live and filmed, to absolutely nailing classic 90’s rap songs on karaoke. My gender is Oscar Wilde and my sexuality consists of cult-classic vampires, Marvel Netflix’s Punisher, The Phantom of the Opera (musical version, preferably), Hamlet, and Christian Slater in Heathers. I think in supernovas and walk in stardust, creating my path as I go. To sum up, what you should keep in mind about me is that my personality swings from destructively analytical to constructively whimsical, I have a habit of referencing my favorite things unceremoniously ( a lot), and, much like The Doctor (told you), I make things up as I go along – come with me.

So, if you follow the second star to the right and straight on ’til morning, if you know emphatically that a wizard is NEVER late, if you must always follow up “dammit!” with “Janet”, then you will feel right at home here.

Before proceeding further, a ritualistic sacrifice to Tim Curry’s Frank N. Furter legs is required. If blood makes you queasy, the stuff from Carrie will suffice.
